While I was working with some of my clients, I noticed there was something missing in a lot of businesses.
Once you realise it, your business will thank you.
As it could be the one thing that's holding your business back.
The Obvious Problem
Let's say you own 1 out of the 3 burger restaurants at your local shopping centre. People are coming in. Enjoying the food. Leaving the restaurant with a smile.
Everything seems to be going well.
A few weeks later, people are not coming in as they used to. And most days the restaurant looks empty.
Suddenly…
A customer walks in and asks you this one question.
Why should I eat here instead of that other burger restaurant near you?
You exclaim “Oh, because we're the best!”.
The customer replies “But that other restaurant said that they were the best. So what makes you so different?”
You stand there. Looking aimlessly at the red ceiling. Trying desperately to think of an answer.
You look back at the customer. And reluctantly tell him…
“I don't know”
And he walks away.
Am I The Same?
Now let's apply this exact scenario to your business.
If I were to ask you,
“Why should I pick you over your competitors?”
There's a good chance you might not give me a unique and concise answer.
This is interesting because the question gets to the heart of your unique selling proposition.
A USP can be your make or break when it comes to your business succeeding.
It is ideal to have a selling proposition that isn't the same as everyone.
What Should My USP Be?
Before I talk about what it should be. I need to talk about what it SHOULDN’T be.
Never try to base your USP on lowering the price.
A lot of people seem to forget that your competitors can do the exact same as well.
It just implies that your whole business is cheap.
One way of implementing a USP is through a guarantee.
This could be anything such as a money back guarantee. Or a quality guarantee.
But it just needs a message
